What is the company background? What do you do? How long have your been in business? How many employees etc?

JBM Consulting is a boutique recruitment firm specialising in strategy, change management and COO Roles within the financial services industry. Myself and the founder both used to work for a FTSE250 recruitment firm, though wanted to change the way our industry was perceived. Our ethos is to build consultative partnerships with clients and canidates, putting honesty and passion at the heart of everything we do.

JBM has been going for nearly four years now and in that time we’ve grown from a one man band working from coffee shops, to a team of six talented recruitment proffessionals with diverse backgrounds and complimentary skills.

What challenges or needs did you face that led you to look for a solution like DJCA?

We faced the typical growing pains of a firm that was moving up from a one man band to a bigger team. We didn’t really have any processes in place from an accounting perspective and as we grew we needed to put some rigour around how we do things. The systems we did have were inefficient and prone to error (eg a huge spreadsheet tracking expenses) and weren’t scaleable. That combined with a lack of strategic advice around how to approach our finances meant we needed a solution.

Describe your selection process and what you found most attractive about DJCA? 

I already had Xero in place, so used their list of suggested firms to create an initial shortlist. After reaching out to them all, I found DJCA to be the most personable (Rob came out to meet me that day!) and their approach to technology and streamlining processes was a breath of fresh air compared to previous accountants.

Were there any problems with implementation and how were they overcome?

Not really! The team at DJCA helped us get Xero up to speed and managed the transition from our old accountant. The whole process was relatively painless!

What are three words that describe your experience working with DJCA and why would you recommend them to your peers?

Friendly, efficient and supportive. I would (and have!) highly recommend DJCA.

What do you like best about Xero software? Are there any features you think could be improved?

Having previously done a lot of things manually (ie typing invoices out in word and maintaining a cash diary in excel) I like how easy it is to create these items in Xero.

What is your favourite thing to do in London in your spare time?

Both James (my business partner) and myself have young babies and so our weekends are split between family time and sports (both watching and playing)!

Do you have any other comments regarding your experience with DJCA?

Partnering with an advisor or supplier that genuinely helps your business become more efficient can dramatically improve the way things work internally. This sounds obvious but without proactively looking at areas to streamline, you can easily settle for an unproductive status quo. It wasn’t until we switched that we realised how inefficient we were before, and DJCA played a big part in that.
